Lightship Overfalls Hosts First Summer Sundowner on July 17

Did you know that Lewes, Delaware houses one of only 17 remaining lightships out of a total of 179 built from 1820 to 1952?  The Lightship Overfalls in Lewes was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2011, and it is one of seven lightships in the U.S. still open to the public.

A Lightship is basically a lighthouse that floats, it serves the same function such as:

  • A light to aid navigation at night
  • A horn to warn mariners in fog
  • A radio beacon for longer range identification

On Wednesday, June 17, the Overfalls will host the first annual summer evening  Sundown BBQ from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. (rain date 6/18).  The event will feature live steel band music and pulled pork BBQ provided by Casa D’Amici.  Tickets are $8 for adults, $5 for children and include pulled pork on fresh baked rolls, pickles, chips, dessert and  beverage of your choice (beer, wine  or soft drink).  The ship deck will be open for dining with lovely views of the sunset and  surrounding waterfront area.  For questions or further information call Tracy Mulveny at (302) 379-0072.
