This Friday after work, head over to Second Street in Lewes, Delaware for Oktoberfest from 4:00 – 6:30 p.m. which will include dancing, drinking and of course, German cuisine. The event is the second Oktoberfest held in Lewes hosted by the Lewes Chamber of Commerce and is part of their “Fun Friday” series in the fall.
Bavarian-style dancers will be performing in front of Mary Vessels Park and all Oktoberfest participants are encouraged to dance along! Music will be provided by a 10-piece German Oompah band, and all attendees are asked to don their lederhosen and dirndls for the event.
Due to a city ordinance, beer is not allowed to be served outside, but a “beer garden” atmosphere will be created on Market Street where patrons can congregate. Commemorative beer steins imprinted with the Dogfish Head logo and official Lewes Oktoberfest logo will be available for sale during the event. The beer steins will allow diners a discount on Dogfish Head’s pilsner style beer, My Antonia, which will be available at many downtown Lewes restaurants. Beer steins will be on sale the day of the event at the Lewes Chamber’s visitor center at the Fisher-Martin House in Zwaanendael Park or at the event starting at 4:00 p.m.
Front and Second Streets will be closed to car traffic from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. to allow for the festivities, so be aware if you are traveling into town during those times on Friday.
Cheers!
