Best Place to Avoid the Saturday Rush: On the Rocks

Today we headed down to 8 Sandpiper and after getting to the house, we needed something to eat!  Since we just arrived and didn’t feel like cooking anything, our new ritual is to head over to On the Rocks located at the Cape May – Lewes Ferry terminal.  We know the ferry terminal doesn’t sound like a great place to grab a bite, but it is really great for many reasons, and here is why:

  1. All of the seating is outdoors, and there is usually no wait for a table with open seating, so you can pick your own table (or grab a seat at the bar)
  2. The food is cooked to order and the pub fare menu keeps the preparation time short which means you won’t be waiting too long
  3. You get to watch the ferry come in and out of the dock
  4. They have a great beer list, or try one of their signature cocktails – we recommend THE SHARK TANK (see below)
  5. The Kalmar Nyckel dock is also located next to the ferry which is definitely something to see when you are in Lewes
  6. They have a mini golf course for the kids
