Due to a large demand and increased attendance, the Lewes Historical Society is moving its History Happy Hours to a new location.  The events will now be held at Hotel Rodney, the event sponsor which sits at 142 2nd street.

History Happy Hours take place every Friday (through September 27), and feature presentations of interesting dialog lead by local history buffs, ranging in topics from early explorers of the Delaware Bay to Lewes during the Revolutionary War.   Each event starts at 4:00pm and will run for roughly 20-30 minutes followed by a question-answer period.

During the presentations, a glass of wine will be served by Rose & Crown, Lewes’ upscale British pub.  Best of all, attendees can enjoy these events for free!  The full schedule of upcoming discussion topics is below:

Fridays in August:

  • August 9 – “The ‘Wooden World’ Revealed: The Archaeology of His Majesty’s Sloop of War DeBraak”
  • August 16 – “The War of 1812 and the Bombardment of Lewes”
  • August 23 – “Early Explorers of the Delaware Bay”

After you have enjoyed the happy hour, visit one of the amazing restaurants along 2nd street to have a delicious dinner.  We would suggest a few spots within close range to Hotel Rodney such as Agave Tequila Bar & Kitchen, Half Full, Cafe Azafran or Kindle.  Of course 2nd street and the surrounding area are full of great restaurants, so find your favorite!
